KARACHI: Shan Masood and Yasir Arafat were among others who mourned the loss of First-Class cricketer Rana Shahzad Azam.

On Friday, Shahzad suffered a cardiac arrest which became the cause of his death. The veteran First-Class cricketer belonged to Islamabad and last played domestic cricket in 2018.

Following his death news, people from Pakistan cricket circle mourned his demise. Shan and Yasir also took to Twitter to share their feelings on the cricketer's passing away.

"Life is so unpredictable, please keep our dear friend Rana Shahzad Azam who passed away this morning and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Can’t believe you’re gone," wrote Shan who recently made his T20I debut against England in the ongoing home T20I series.

"Really sad news, we lost Shehzad Azam a lovely soul and great human being, a hard-working cricketer with ambition to play for Pakistan. May Allah grant him highest place in Jannah," Yasir wrote.

Shahzad played 95 First-Class games, 58 List-A games, and 29 T20s. He last represented Islamabad against Pakistan Television (PTV) in the last domestic season which carried departments too.

A friend close to Shahzad told GeoSuper.tv that Shahzad was living a happy life with his family and had no background in heart disease.

"He was a really fit cricketer and had no signs of heart disease previously," he said. To a query about being in depression like many other cricketers after departmental cricket was closed, his friend said 'not at all'.

"I don't think he was under any pressure or in depression. He was happy and enjoying his life. It happened all of a sudden," he added.

Earlier in 2021, national cricketer Abid Ali suffered a heart attack while batting during a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match. The opener remained away from cricket for at least six months.
