LAHORE: Pakistan's badminton team has been removed from the national contingent for Commonwealth Games, scheduled to kick off on 28 July in Birmingham.

President of Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF), Syed Wajid Ali confirmed on Friday that the four-member badminton squad, which was initially included in Pakistan's team for the event, has been removed by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

"Olympian Mahoor Shahzad was also a member of the group. PSB failed to provide an explanation for the removal. This is a mistreatment of the players, and the federation lacks the resources to sponsor it.

"Pakistan Badminton Federation will contact Pakistan Olympic Association about the issue," he added.

Meanwhile, Mahoor also said she was disappointed with the PSB's decision.

"We have been told that PSB has removed our names, and the board is doing injustice to the players. When everything was finalized, this news was announced at the last moment," said Mahoor.

It should be noted here that Mahoor, Ghazala Siddique, Murad Ali, and Irfan Saeed were part of the team.
