Joseph became only the second West Indian bowler to take a wicket on his first ball on Test debut. He achieved the feat against Australia by dismissing Steve Smith. The other West Indian to do so is Tyrell Johnson.

In the same Test match, Shamar Joseph took his first five-wicket haul and became the tenth West Indian bowler to achieve the milestone.
