Javed Miandad was a former Pakistani cricketer who is considered the greatest batter ever produced by Pakistan and one of the finest batters to ever play the game.
Miandad is famously remembered for his last ball six at Sharjah in 1986 against India when Pakistan only needed four runs to win. That six was the first of its kind as no match had ever ended in that manner.
Javed Miandad also represented Pakistan in the first six Cricket World Cups (1975, 1979, 1983, 1987, 1992 and 1996). He is one of the three cricketers to appear in six World Cups. The others are India’s Sachin Tendulkar and Mithali Raj.
Javed Miandad also played an integral role in the 1992 Cricket World Cup which Pakistan won under the leadership of Imran Khan. It was the first time Pakistan had won a World Cup and to this day, it is the country’s only ODI Cricket World Cup title.
Miandad was the second-highest run-scorer in the 1992 Cricket World Cup with 437 runs at an average of 64 in nine innings. He also scored five fifties. If he had scored 20 more runs then he would have been the leading scorer as New Zealand’s Martin Crowe scored 456 runs just 19 more than Miandad.
In 1976, at 19 years and 140 days, Javed Miandad broke George Headley’s youngest player to hit a double-ton record. Miandad’s record has not been broken even after more than 47 years.
In 1982, Wisden named Miandad as one of its five Cricketers of the Year.
In 2009, Javed Miandad was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.

“Javed Miandad was the archetypal champion if he's on your side, bastard if he's an opponent. With his skill, perseverance and street-urchin cunning, Javed won grudging respect as one of the finest batsmen in the game.”
“Imran and Miandad are two of the most patriotic individuals I have met, and I can identify with that. I am quite certain you wouldn't be hearing stories about match-fixing and other bad things if they were at the helm. Both would die for their country."
