Azhar Mahmood – profile, career and stats

Azhar Mahmood is a former Pakistani all-rounder and coach of the national cricket team.

Mahmood was part of the squad which finished as runners-up at the 1999 Cricket World Cup.

In 2001, Wisden included Azhar Mahmood’s innings of 132 against South Africa at Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban in 1997-1998 as the eighth-best Test Innings of All Time in the list of Wisden 100.

Mahmood has also coached Pakistan in the bowling department from 2016 to 2019.  He was also appointed Pakistan’s head coach on a temporary basis for their series against New Zealand at home.

Azhar Mahmood has also coached Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) franchises Karachi Kings (KK), and Multan Sultans (MS). He was appointed as head coach of Islamabad United (IU) for their 7th season. Ahead of IU’s 2024 season, he was made their bowling coach and removed from the position of head coach.
