Lahore Qalandars experienced opener Fakhar Zaman has said that his own wicket and that of Mohammad Hafeez tilted the pendulum towards Islamabad United in the Sunday game of the HBL PSL-6 in Abu Dhabi.

“You can say that,” said Fakhar, when asked if his wicket and that of Hafeez turned the game towards United. “I had settled down and was not in the mood to take any risk. I had planned to play deep but unfortunately I played that shot through which I lost my wicket. But I was trying to play deep,” Fakhar said.

Falhar scored 37-ball 44 in Lahore’s lost cause against United. Lahore bowled well in the start and also did well in the start in batting but a huge collapse resulted in them losing the game by 28 runs.

Fakhar said that they would try not to repeat these mistakes in coming matches. “This is good that at this stage we played such a game and I hope we will not repeat these mistakes,” the left-handed batsman said.

He said that the volatile nature of cricket is its real beauty. “This is the beauty of cricket as at no stage you can say that the match has finished,” Fakhar said. “And today we saw that the way we removed five batsmen of the United in the start and then Iftikhar and Asif Ali created a partnership, so this is the beauty of cricket,” Fakhar said. “The credit goes to both of them the way they staged a fight-back in batting and set a good total for us. And after that in batting we took a good start but they bowled very well. The initial ten to 12 overs belonged to us and after that it was their (United) day and they played good cricket,” Fakhar said.

Both United and Lahore are tied on points but the former are ahead on the net run rate. “Our plans are simple. We try to play normal cricket and play as a team. Today also as a team we did well but could not finish,” Fakhar said.
