Karachi Kings coach Herschelle Gibbs has said that his charges need to be more proactive for the coming matches if they are to make it to the playoffs.

“The wickets in Karachi were very good and unbelievable. This wicket is a fresh one and obviously much better than last night’s wicket. The past is no excuse and what we need is to become more proactive,” Gibbs said after Kings lost to Multan Sultans by 12 runs in their first game of the Abu Dhabi leg of the HBL PSL-6 on Thursday night.

Gibbs stressed that they need to change the mindset. “It’s not the end of the world. We need three wins out of the last four games to secure playoff position. A lot of players have not played for a while. It’s nice to get some runs but obviously it was disappointing,” Gibbs said.

Set to score 177, Kings managed only 164-7.

“If we look at the way we bowled the first ten overs or so we were exactly the same with regards to the batting. We were a little bit one dimensional. I think we should become a little bit more proactive. It was a good wicket. We did really well to come back after ten overs. The pressure towards the back end was mounting a bit too much. The last eight or nine overs put us back,” Gibbs said.

He praised young off-spinner Qasim Akram, saying he would learn gradually. “Yes, Qasim showed a lot of promise. We thought that the wicket would be a little bit slower and it was. Being young he will learn more from the experience,” the coach said.

Qasim finished with 0-34 in his quota of four overs.
