Pakistan batting coach Younis Khan on Saturday said that while he is visible as team’s batting coach, he is not included in all the decisions that are made.

Talking to media in a virtual press conference, the 43-year-old said that decisions regarding a player’s continuity in the team squad are not under his domain.

“I’m team’s batting coach and can be seen too, but there are some decisions I’m not included in,” Younis said. “The captain, chief selector and head coach have to see which player has to be given how many chances. In my personal opinion, a player should be given a chance to play at least two to three series but these decisions are not in my power.”

The former captain added that players should be given opportunities to play for Pakistan only after they have ample domestic experience. “We should not add inexperienced players to the national squad in a hurry,” he said.

“I believe a player should have relevant first-class and List A matches experience before they represent Pakistan. Sometimes players are given opportunities early on due to the pressure of media and social media.”

Younis also congratulated the national team for winning both one-day international (ODI) and twenty20 international (T20i) series against South Africa in challenging conditions. “Winning a series overseas is good news for Pakistan,” he said.

“While there are areas to work on, the team learned a lot on this tour. I am glad the batsmen played long innings, especially Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam played expectedly well.”
