The Indian government has assured the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that Pakistan players will be provided visas to compete in the Twenty20 World Cup scheduled in October this year.

According to Press Trust of India (PTI), the BCCI council was told Friday by board secretary Jay Shah that the Indian government has given an all-clear to issue visas to the Pakistan squad and sports scribes for the global event.

"The visa issue of Pakistan cricket team has been sorted. However, whether the fans can travel across the border to watch matches is still not clear," an Apex Council member told PTI.

"It will be decided in due course of time. However, we had promised ICC that it will be sorted. The secretary announced during the meeting."

The BCCI was given an April 30 deadline by the ICC to provide written confirmations from the Indian government regarding visas issuance of the Pakistan team.

Despite many reminders by the Pakistan Cricket Board, the BCCI was unable to furnish the Indian government’s no-objection certificate on timely issuance of visas to the Pakistan team.

However, a few weeks back, the BCCI representative attending the ICC virtual meeting confirmed positive talks with their government.

It is believed that the guarantee letter will be submitted to the ICC within the next few days. However, there has been no decision on accommodating Pakistani spectators as yet.

As per the PTI report, the mega-event will be staged across nine venues, with Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosting the final. The other venues are Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Dharamsala and Lucknow.
