Karachi: Pakistan has jumped to the 2nd place in International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup Super League points table following the 2-1 victory against South Africa in the one-day international (ODI) series on Wednesday.

The boys-in-green are only behind world champions England in race to earn a direct berth to 2023 Cricket World Cup in India.

Pakistan has earned 40 points from six matches; winning four games and losing the other two in the super league so far. England, on the other hand, has won four matches from nine ODIs and are on top with 40 points.

The world champions are ahead of Pakistan on the basis of net run rate (NRR). England’s NRR is 0.468 as compared to Pakistan’s 0.422. Meanwhile, Australia having similar points like the top two is placed on third with a NRR of 0.347.

Pakistan will play its next Super League series against England in July with an aim to jump on the top of the table.

The ICC ODI World Cup Super League, featuring 12 teams, will continue till March 2023 to see top seven teams and hosts India making way to Cricket World Cup 2023, while the bottom five teams will have to play the qualifying round for next two spots in the mega event.

During the cycle, each team will play an ODI series against eight of the other twelve teams; four series at home and four away and each series will consist of three ODI matches.
