Gladiators’ owner Nadeem Omar says PCB 90% responsible for PSL 6 bubble burst

Karachi: Quetta Gladiators owner Nadeem Omar on Wednesday said that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was “90 percent responsible” for the postponement of Pakistan Super League (PSL) season six, Geo.tv reported.

Pakistan’s premiere Twenty20 tournament was postponed abruptly after a Covid-19 outbreak was reported in the event’s bio-secure bubble in Karachi earlier this month.

The franchise owner of Gladiators has meanwhile put the blame on the cricket board. “PCB is 90% to blame for the failure of the bio-secure bubble,” Omar said on Geo’s cricket show Score.

"[PCB Chairman] Ehsan Mani has admitted there is lack of communication between the board and franchises," he added.

Lahore Qalandars CEO Atif Rana had also initially blamed the cricket board for failing to keep the tournament corona free.

Following PSL’s suspension, fans and franchises questioned the PCB’s management of the Covid-19 SOPs for the tournament. Due to the backlash, the PCB’s medical chief Dr Sohail Saleem had resigned from his position.

The PSL had seen 14 of its scheduled 34 matches of edition six staged before Covid-19 caused the interruption. The remaining 20 matches will now be played in June later this year.
