Former Pakistan opener Salman Butt on Sunday slammed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for its “laptop selection” after the squads for the series against South Africa and Zimbabwe were announced.

The 36-year-old questioned the selection of many players including Pakistan’s limited-overs vice-captain Shadab Khan. “From one-and-half he [Shadab] can’t bowl, his focus is on batting only and yet the board has picked him,” he said on his official YouTube channel.

Regarding selection of massive squads, Butt said that the pandemic has made things easier for selectors. “Covid-19 has made selection process very easy for selectors; they can keep 30 players in the squad now,” the former captain laughed.

He also mocked the presentation of Chief Selector Mohammad Wasim saying, that the PCB does not need to hire a person if they have to go with the “laptop selection” every time. “Players should be selected and judged based on their potential and consistency,” Butt said.

The batsman said that the PCB selection committee has “no direction” as majority of their decisions made no sense. “You [PCB] let Musa Khan travel with the national team for three years and now you’ve dropped him. Why did you invest in him then?” he questioned.

Butt also raised similar concerns regarding Mohammad Hasnain, saying the player travels with the team as “net bowler” which is hampering his growth as he doesn’t get to play domestic cricket either.

“Likewise Fakhar Zaman performed in T20s but he is selected in ODI squad. It makes no sense, “he said. “There is a lot to say, a lot to answer, but I’m holding back. Eventually people will talk about it.”
