Three more unnamed players test positive for Covid-19 in PSL 2021

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday announced that three more players from two different teams have tested positive for Covid-19 during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Karachi.

While confirming the news through a press release today, PCB said that the corona positive players will now self isolate for ten days.

The unnamed players who tested positive are most likely from Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars as the board, in its statement, mentioned that they didn’t participate in the two games played on Wednesday.

“The three players were not part of the sides that featured in Wednesday’s HBL Pakistan Super League 6 double-header, and had been tested in the afternoon after showing symptoms,” PCB said.

However, no official confirmation regarding the players’ teams have been made yet.

Earlier on Tuesday, Samiul Hasan Burney, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Director – Media and Communications, confirmed that three positive Covid-19 cases have emerged in the tournament’s bio-secure bubble after an outbreak on Islamabad United’s camp was reported.

"Of the 244 tests conducted, three have come back positive,” he said. “Two foreign players and one support staff have tested positive.”

Quetta Gladiators’ Tom Banton, along with United’s Fawad Ahmed, were the two foreign players who tested positive while Karachi King’s fielding coach Kamran Khan was the support staff member who tested positive.

While the PCB official had confirmed on Tuesday that the tournament will continue as per schedule, a virtual meeting today will be held to decide the tournament’s future.

“The HBL PSL 6 organising committee will hold a virtual meeting with the team owners and managements later on Thursday, following which a further update will be provided,” the PCB statement added.
