Babar Azam, after a rare failure in the last game, was once again back among the runs, leading Karachi Kings to a six-wicket victory over Peshawar Zalmi at the National Stadium on Wednesday.

The victory meant that the incredible trend of chasing team winning remained alive and has now held up for 13 straight matches.

Set a target of 189, Karachi were wobbled when they lost Sharjeel Khan on the first ball of the innings. Two more wickets later, the port city side were 3-43.

It was then that Azam and Mohammad Nabi formed a crucial 118-run partnership for the fourth wicket. The Afghan all-rounder’s contribution of 67 off 35 was pivotal at a time Azam was struggling for runs.

The star batsman stepped up the pace though once Nabi departed and made sure he stayed till the end, finishing with 77 off 47 balls.

Earlier, Ravi Bopara (58*) and Sherfane Rutherford (46) rescued Peshawar’s innings after their top order was dismantled by Karachi pacers. The pair got together when Zalmi were 69-4 and helped their side finish with a more than respectable 188-5, for which Amad Butt’s whirlwind 27 off just seven balls also deserve a mention.
