Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Executive Wasim Khan on Sunday cleared the air regarding rumours of the Board having differences with Mohammad Hafeez, saying the two enjoy "good relations".

Speaking to the media at a press conference in Karachi, the 50-year-old said that the PCB wanted to award the player a central contract but he refused.

“PCB has good relations with all its players and we also have good relationship with Mohammad Hafeez. We wanted to give him a central contract to appreciate his performances in T20 cricket but he refused the offer,” he said.

Wasim added that the impression that PCB wanted to buy Hafeez off by giving him a central contract is wrong. “Declining the central contract was Hafeez’s personal decision and we respect that,” he said.

Last week, PCB promoted wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan from Category B to Category A while Fawad Alam was added to the list of centrally contracted players. The board had offered a Category C contract to Hafeez but he turned down PCB’s offer.

Following the announcement, former cricketer Moin Khan had criticised the PCB for offering Hafeez, Pakistan’s top T20 player, a Category C contract, saying that the veteran deserved a Category A contract.

“Mohammad Hafeez deserves A category contract and there are clear double standards from the PCB to award him C category when Azhar Ali and Yasir Shah who also play in one format have been given A category. True reflection of prejudice against an individual,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that while Moin claimed Yasir was a Category A cricketer, the player is in reality a Category B player.
