Karachi: Several new records were created during the sixth match of HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 between defending champion Karachi Kings and Islamabad United on Wednesday.

While United had successfully chased the target of 197 at the loss of five wickets without any batsmen reaching half-century, the Karachi Kings innings included a hundred by Sharjeel Khan and a half century by Babar Azam.

The Kings’ duo scored 176 runs for the first wicket’s partnership - highest ever for any wicket in the history of PSL. The previous record also involved Babar when he scored 157 for the first wicket partnership with Liam Livingstone against Multan Sultans in 2019.

This was the seventh century stand in the league’s history involving Babar, making him the player with most century partnership contributions in PSL.

The 26-year-old, who scored 62 off 54 balls, also extended his total PSL runs tally to over 1600 runs. He with 1602 runs in 47 innings is now the top runs-scorer in the history of PSL, followed by Kamran Akmal who has scored 1579 runs in 57 innings.

Meanwhile, Sharjeel’s century against United was the ninth overall hundred to be scored in PSL. It was his second century; earlier he had scored 117 in inaugural edition of PSL, representing Islamabad United.

The 31-year-old is the only player after Akmal to score more than one century in PSL. The latter has three centuries to his name while Sharjeel has scored two. Colin Ingram, Cameron Delport, Rilee Rossouw and Chris Lynn are the other centurions in the tournament.
