With the start of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 just a few hours away, Peshawar Zalmi were dealt a major blow as their captain Wahab Riaz and head coach Darren Sammy were ruled out indefinitely and sent into isolation for breaching the league's bio-secure bubble.

Reliable sources within the team and the PSL management have confirmed that Riaz, along with Sammy, had mistakenly met team owner Javed Afridi during their practice session on Friday evening.

“It may be an honest mistake and the player and coach possibly didn’t know that he (Afridi) was not a part of the bubble,” a source privy to the matter said.

Zalmi will now announce a stand-in captain for Sunday's match, with Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal likely candidates.

The PCB, on late Friday night, had announced that a player and an official had been placed in a three-day quarantine after coming into contact with a person outside the bubble.

The two individuals will now have to take two negative tests during the three-day quarantine before they could re-enter the bubble in accordance with re-entry protocols.
