Gwadar cricket stadium hosts exhibition match in tribute to Ali Sadpara

Gwadar Cricket Stadium held its first exhibition match between Gwadar Dolphins and Showbiz Sharks on Friday as a tribute to late mountaineer Ali Sadpara.

In remembrance of the alpinist, who was recently declared dead by his family, prayers were commenced before the start of the game.

Sadpara was officially declared dead on Thursday after a long search operation that started when he, along with two other foreign climbers, went missing on a winter expedition to K2.

“Dedicating the 1st ever match at Gwadar Stadium to Pakistan’s son #MuhammadAliSadpara,” Sayed Zulfi Bukhari, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistani, wrote on Twitter ahead of the match.

Bukhari led the Dolphins side that featured many local players along with Ali Zaidi and GOC Gwadar. The Sharks, on the other hand, were led by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) CEO Wasim Khan and included many celebrities like Fakhr-e-Alam, Faysal Qureishi, Ali Zafar, Saleem Sheikh, Aijaz Aslam, Shezad Roy, Sami Khan, Kamran Jeelani, Salman Saeed, Ali Safina and Noman Habib.

The toss was officiated by British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Christian Turner, who was in awe of the venue’s beauty. "What a stadium," Turner said. "It's the most beautiful stadium in the world, in my opinion," he added.

The newly inaugurated Gwadar Stadium was in headlines recently for its beauty after Fakhr-e-Alam shared some majestic visuals of the ground on his social media.
