Rizwan is Pakistan’s number one wicket-keeper batsman: Mohammad Hafeez

Pakistan cricket all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez on Saturday re-stated that Mohammad Rizwan is currently Pakistan’s number one wicket-keeper batsman.

Talking to a number of journalists in Lahore, the 40-year-old said that he has always been watching Rizwan play. “He has given very good performances so I never doubted that he is the number one wicket-keeper batsman of Pakistan. I expect more good performance from him,” he said.

Rizwan scored his maiden century in the first T20I of the three-match against South Africa and played a key role in Pakistan's victory. He is the first Pakistani wicket-keeper batsman and second overall to score a century in the shortest format at international level. The player has now scored centuries in all three formats of the game.

The veteran cricketer had shared the same thoughts on Twitter as well after the conclusion of first T20I between Pakistan and South Africa. Meanwhile many thought that the player is taking an indirect jibe at Sarfaraz Ahmed, who is struggling to find a place in the playing eleven due to Rizwan’s cracking form.

Hafeez added that the debate regarding Rizwan not being a top-order T20 batsman should end now. “He has proved that he knows how to score runs, no praise is enough for him. I’m sure he will perform even better ahead,” he said.

While acknowledging the importance of that century, the Professor said that Rizwan did a brilliant job at enduring the pressure during his innings and later transforming that into hard hitting.

Hafeez also congratulated the Pakistan team on winning the first T20I against South Africa and said that victory in the match was not due to an individual but the result of the team's overall performance.
