PSL 2021: List of players retained and released by franchises 

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday announced the lists of players retained and released by all six franchises of Pakistan Super League (PSL) for its upcoming edition set to begin from February 20.

Defending champions Karachi Kings have retained Pakistan’s all-formats captain Babar Azam, who was the Player of the Tournament in last season. While two-times champion Islamabad United retained their captain Shadab Khan.

The two teams were also involved in the only trade with Alex Hales returning to Islamabad United while Colin Ingram going back to Karachi Kings.

Each team could retain up to eight players, however, surprisingly the 2017 champions Peshawar Zalmi only retained five, releasing key players like Hasan Ali, Imam ul Haq, Carlos Braithwaite and many more.

Other key players released by franchises include Dale Steyn by Islamabad United, Junaid Khan, Moeen Ali and Ravi Bopara by Multan Sultans and Ahmed Shehzad by Quetta Gladiators.

In the platinum category, Mohamamd Hafeez and Shaheen Shah Afridi have been retained by Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans have kept Shahid Afridi and Rilee Rossouw, Peshawar Zalmi retained Shoaib Malik and Wahab Riaz while Quetta Gladiators have retained their captain Sarfaraz Ahmed.
