KARACHI: The government of Sindh has officially launched the second edition of the Sindh E-Sports Championship 2026 in a glittering opening ceremony, held here at the Liaquat Library on Monday.

According to the details, more than 1,000 teams are participating in the championship, while a total prize pool of Rs3 million has been announced for the winners.

The competition will feature popular titles including PUBG Mobile, Tekken 8 and FC 27. Qualifying rounds will be held at various universities across here, while the semi-finals will take place at prominent shopping malls in the metropolitan city.

The grand final is scheduled to be held at the Expo Centre Karachi in the first week of October.

The opening ceremony was attended by Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Sindh Sports Secretary Munawar Ali Mahesar as the chief guests, during which shields were presented to 24 boxers, ju-jitsu athletes and coaches who had performed prominently at national-level championships.

Shah said talented boxers and ju-jitsu athletes from Sindh had brought recognition to the province at national and international levels, adding that recognising their achievements would help encourage more young people to take up sport.

The Local Government minister further described the recently launched championship as an opportunity for young people to showcase their abilities, adding that 'The Next Era of Champions' initiative would provide them with a professional platform.

"Sindh e-Sports Championship is a source of pride for young people and an excellent opportunity for them to demonstrate their talent," Shah said.

Shah further asserted that the provincial government was providing opportunities for young people to progress not only in traditional sports but also in technology and e-sports.

He then went on to praise the efforts of Sports Minister Mahesar for organising sporting activities throughout the year, while emphasising that initiatives were also being undertaken to identify and encourage talent at the grassroots level.
