Jake Burger exits Texas Rangers game with wrist injury

ARLINGTON: Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger left Saturday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels after four innings after suffering a left wrist contusion.

Burger was hit by a pitch from Angels starter Ryan Johnson in the third inning and initially attempted to remain in the game.

However, he was unable to continue after experiencing discomfort while swinging the bat.

The Rangers confirmed that X-rays on Burger’s wrist were negative and listed him as day to day. The club said he would undergo further scans and see a doctor later on Saturday night to determine the extent of the injury.

"That got him good. He's pretty swollen, pretty sore," Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said after the game, which the Angels won 3-0. "So far, the X-rays are negative. But we'll probably get more scans, and he'll see the doctor later tonight. But it squared him up pretty good.

"Had a tough time swinging the bat when he went down to see if he could still stay in. Burger's one of the toughest guys I've ever been around. So if he's not able to go back in, you knew it was pretty sore."

Burger has been one of the Rangers’ key offensive contributors this season, hitting 21 home runs and driving in 73 runs. His home-run tally is second on the team, just one behind Joc Pederson’s 22.

The Rangers will monitor Burger’s condition closely ahead of their upcoming games, with his availability likely to depend on the results of further medical examinations.
