Shadab Khan's explosive fifty powers table-toppers Falcons to win over Knight Riders

ANTIGUA: Shadab Khan produced another stellar all-round performance as the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons secured their second home victory of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026, defeating Trinbago Knight Riders by five wickets at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

The victory lifted the Falcons to the top of the points table, with Shadab once again playing a starring role. The Pakistan all-rounder conceded just eight runs in his four overs and claimed a wicket before smashing an unbeaten 52 off 20 balls to complete a remarkable all-round display.

There was a brief rain delay after the toss, which the Falcons won before opting to field. Trinbago Knight Riders made a flying start, reaching 73 in the Powerplay despite losing Alex Hales cheaply.

Colin Munro and Nicholas Pooran took the attack to the Falcons early on, with Pooran particularly aggressive as he unleashed several reverse hits against Moeen Ali.

However, Pooran's dismissal in the eighth over for a 17-ball 43 triggered a collapse. Shadab tightened the screws with his economical spell and soon removed Munro after Matthew Breetzke had departed cheaply.

Kieron Pollard and Jyd Goolie struggled to accelerate and fell in quick succession, while Joshua James impressed with 2/23 from his four overs.

Sunil Narine and Terrance Hinds then added an unbeaten 34-run stand to help the Knight Riders recover and finish on a respectable 165.

The Falcons' chase got off to a lively start when Rahkeem Cornwall took 14 runs from Narine's opening over, although he was soon run out.

Narine then applied the pressure, restricting the Falcons to just 33 runs during the Powerplay. Evin Lewis departed for 10 off 14 balls, while Hasan Nawaz struggled for eight deliveries before falling for one.

Amir Jangoo fought hard for his 31 off 36 balls, but his dismissal left the hosts in trouble at 80-4, with the required rate climbing above 10 runs an over.

Moeen Ali briefly threatened to shift the momentum, hitting Usman Tariq for a four and a six, but Pollard ended his counterattack on 11.

Shadab then took control during the death overs, with Kusal Perera providing valuable support by finding crucial boundaries against Narine and Tariq.

The decisive moment came in the 18th over when Shadab smashed Nathan Edward for three sixes in a 27-run over. Edward was subsequently removed from the attack after bowling two waist-high full tosses.

With the momentum firmly in their favour, Shadab hit Hinds for two more sixes, including the winning blow that took him to his half-century.

His unbeaten 52 off just 20 balls transformed a tense chase into a comfortable victory, as the Falcons continued their impressive home form and moved to the top of the CPL 2026 standings.
