Umaga's son Zilla Fatu makes WWE debut on NXT

NEW YORK: Zilla Fatu has officially arrived in WWE, with the son of late wrestling legend Umaga making a surprise debut on NXT and immediately throwing himself into the brand’s championship picture.

Fatu made his WWE debut on the August 11 episode of NXT, interrupting the match between Grayson Waller and Cruz Montana that was scheduled to determine the next challenger for NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo.

He attacked both competitors, bringing the contest to an abrupt end before confronting D’Angelo and making it clear that he had arrived to make an impact.

The 26-year-old is the son of Umaga, who enjoyed a successful WWE career and was one of the most recognisable members of the Anoa’i-Fatu wrestling dynasty.

Fatu began his professional wrestling career in 2023 after training under WWE Hall of Famer Booker T at Reality of Wrestling in Houston. He made his in-ring debut for the promotion in July 2023 and subsequently established himself on the independent wrestling scene.

During his time on the independent circuit, Fatu competed for promotions including Reality of Wrestling, Game Changer Wrestling and House of Glory. He captured the ROW Heavyweight Championship twice and also became a two-time HOG Crown Jewel Champion.

His performances earned him recognition from Pro Wrestling Illustrated, which ranked him 194th among the top 500 singles wrestlers in its 2025 rankings.

Fatu's journey to WWE represents another chapter in one of professional wrestling's most prominent families.

His father, Umaga, was the brother of Rikishi, making Fatu a first cousin of WWE stars Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso and Solo Sikoa. Jacob Fatu is also part of the same closely connected Fatu family branch and is regarded as one of Zilla's cousins.

The family's WWE connections extend further through the wider Anoa’i dynasty, which includes Roman Reigns. However, Reigns and Zilla Fatu are not first cousins; they are members of the same extended wrestling family.

With Zilla now officially part of WWE, the company has another member of the legendary Samoan wrestling dynasty on its roster. 

His explosive NXT debut has also immediately placed him in the orbit of the NXT Championship, setting the stage for what could become a significant chapter in his young WWE career.
