New York Jets cornerback Qwan'tez Stiggers has been released from hospital and is recovering at home after collapsing during a joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The 24-year-old briefly lost consciousness on the sidelines during a training drill on Tuesday, prompting an immediate medical response and bringing the session to a halt for more than 10 minutes.

Stiggers was taken to hospital by ambulance for further examination but was discharged later that evening.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said the defender was conscious and communicating before being carried from the field on a stretcher.

"He came to the sideline after a play and he actually fell out," Glenn said.

"The good thing was he was conscious. He was able to talk. For the most part, he's good."

The incident prompted an emotional reaction from Stiggers' team-mates, with several Jets players taking a knee near the sidelines while others formed a prayer circle as he received medical attention.

"It was very sad, very emotional," running back Breece Hall said.

"You get on your knee and say a prayer for him and hope he's OK."

Glenn also praised the Jets' medical staff for their swift response and handling of the situation.

The practice was reportedly heated, with several fights breaking out between the two teams. During one scuffle, Stiggers had his helmet thrown down the field after an altercation involving Buccaneers offensive lineman Luke Goedeke.

Stiggers has recorded 35 tackles, two fumble recoveries and three passes defended in 29 games for the Jets.

The two teams will meet again in the NFL pre-season opener at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, on Friday.
