Frank Warren provides update on Daniel Dubois vs Fabio Wardley rematch

Frank Warren has provided an update on the rematch between Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley.

The two British boxers delivered an absolute classic in their first heavyweight showdown back in May. Dubois survived two early knockdowns to stop a battered but courageous Wardley in the 11th round to claim the WBO title.

Wardley, who was defending his belt for the first time, stunned Dubois just 10 seconds into the fight with a powerful right hand that sent the former champion to the canvas.

He dropped Dubois again in the third round and looked poised to seize control of the bout.

However, Daniel Dubois regrouped impressively and gradually turned the tide with relentless pressure and heavy combinations.

The fight was stopped in the 11th round with Fabio Wardley bloodied and battered, but refusing to give in.

Fabio Wardley activated a rematch clause in his contract for a fight against Daniel Dubois after losing his WBO heavyweight title in Manchester and now fans are waiting for another classic.

Speaking to Playbook Boxing, Warren expressed his excitement at the rematch.

He then shared his thoughts on Wardley, 31, returning to the ring so soon after such a brutal contest.

“Great fight. Great fight the first time. The second one is going to be competitive,” Warren said.

“We’ll find out in October. He’s hurt Daniel twice and put him down twice and Daniel got himself back into it, great discipline, and boxed extremely well and showed what he is about. I think Fabio, in his head, must feel the fact that he hurt him, he’s capable of stopping him. He’s done it bar one to everyone he’s fought.”

Wardley and Dubois are expected to fight in October in a likely stadium showdown.
