Pakistan's Umair Arif wins Hong Kong Junior Squash Open 2026 title

HONG KONG: Pakistan’s rising squash player Umair Arif has been crowned champion of the Hong Kong Junior Squash Open 2026 after defeating England’s Luke McBride in a thrilling five-game final.

Umair fought back from losing the opening game to secure a 3–2 victory, winning the contest 4–11, 11–6, 11–5, 9–11, 11–4.

The Pakistani youngster displayed skill, determination and resilience throughout the tournament before securing the prestigious junior title against strong international competition.

The triumph also adds another chapter to Pakistan’s rich squash history.

Legendary Pakistani squash player Jansher Khan won the Hong Kong Junior Championship in 1985, and four decades later, Umair has followed in his footsteps by bringing the title back to Pakistan.

Umair, who has represented Pakistan at the World Junior Squash Championships and Asian Junior Squash Championships, expressed his delight after securing the title.

“I am extremely happy to have won the Hong Kong Junior Squash Open 2026. I have been preparing for this tournament for a long time by competing in both local and international events, and all the hard work has finally paid off," Umair said.

“Winning this title is a proud moment for me and for Pakistan. I would like to sincerely thank the Pakistan Squash Federation and everyone who has supported, encouraged and believed in my journey,” he added.

The victory further underlines Pakistan’s strong tradition in squash and the emergence of a new generation of talented players capable of competing at the highest junior level.

Umair’s achievement also highlights the importance of providing young athletes with opportunities, training and support to develop their potential and represent Pakistan on the international stage.
