Mike Hesson holds meeting with National Champions Cup team coaches
National Champions Cup to take place in Multan from August 11 till 18
MULTAN: Pakistan men’s white-ball head coach Mike Hesson met with the coaches of the four National Champions Cup teams on Sunday ahead of the start of the domestic tournament on 11 August.
All matches will be played at Multan Cricket Stadium and begin at 3pm local time.
Hesson, who has arrived in Multan for the competition, held discussions with the coaching staff of Pakistan Greens, Pakistan Gold, Pakistan Whites and Pakistan Blues regarding player development and preparations for the seven-match 50-over tournament.
The meeting was attended by the four head coaches which included Misbah-ul-Haq, Ijaz Junior, Iqbal Imam and Aizaz Cheema, along with Pakistan white-ball bowling coach Ashley Noffke and National Cricket Academy (NCA) Head of Coach Education Shahid Aslam.
The discussions focused on improving players’ 50-over skills and other aspects of their development during the tournament, which runs from 11 to 18 August.
The National Champions Cup will mark the start of Pakistan’s 2026-27 domestic cricket season and is also part of the national team’s preparations for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
The seven-match List A tournament will feature four teams — Pakistan Greens, Pakistan Whites, Pakistan Blues and Pakistan Gold — competing in a single round-robin format. The top two teams at the end of the league stage will qualify for the final on 18 August.
The national selection committee has announced fixed playing XIs for each team, along with a 13-player reserve pool. The selected XIs must remain unchanged throughout the tournament, while reserve players can only replace players who are injured or have suffered a concussion.
The reserve players will remain with their respective squads during training sessions and on match days.
Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan will captain the four sides respectively.
