Arsenal completes signing of Newcastle's Guimaraes

Arsenal have completed the signing of Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, the Premier League champions announced on Saturday.

Guimaraes has signed a deal that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium for the next four years, with an option for a further one-year extension.

According to reports in British media, the deal is worth around 75 million pounds ($101.16 million) for the Brazil international, adding the midfielder to Mikel Arteta’s squad.

“Since the first time I spoke to (Arsenal Sporting Director Andrea) Berta and Mikel, I was excited. I just felt inside of me that I need a new challenge in my life and I think to be an Arsenal player is going to be an exciting challenge in my life,” Guimaraes said in a statement on the club's website.

"I am so excited to start. We have tough games to play this season, so the squad is going to be very, very important and I’m hopeful we can achieve our dreams.”

Bruno Guimaraes joined Newcastle from French side Olympique Lyonnais for £40m in 2022 and has made 195 appearances for the Premier League club, scoring 31 goals.

The Brazilian international was part of the squad that played the 2026 World Cup and has been a regular presence in the national team in recent years.

He will become the fourth key player of Newcastle to leave the club in less than a year.

Sandro Tonali joined Tottenham Hotspur and Anthony Gordon moved to Barcelona earlier in the window, while Alexander Isak went to Liverpool last summer.

Arsenal will open the defence of their league title at home to Coventry on August 21st.
