Joshua sets out demands to move fight with Fury to US

Anthony Joshua will demand a handsome amount of money to move his fight with Tyson Fury to New York.

Joshua and Fury signed contracts earlier this year to fight at home in the autumn. But Netflix, which will broadcast the contest, want to move it to a place suitable for a US audience.

The organisers want to stage the bout on November 20, a Friday, at Madison Square Garden. Joshua, 36, admitted last month that his legacy would be damaged if his biggest fight was shipped abroad. And his promoter Eddie Hearn insists they are not ready to give in.

"I feel like me and AJ are the last two standing on a hill waving the Union Jack," he told talkSPORT.

" Anthony Joshua made me insert a clause into the contract that said the fight must happen in the UK so at the moment it can't happen anywhere else. We are under a lot of pressure because it sounds like everyone has agreed they want to do the fight at Madison Square Garden, but we don't.

“We want to make it so financially unviable to change the contract that they have no choice but to do it in the UK. I don't know how it's going to play out but we wouldn't have signed the contract under its terms if the fight was going to be in America, so why should we change it now?"

Tyson Fury's promoter Frank Warren, meanwhile, refused to provide details on the fight's date or location.

“That will be up to his Excellency (Turki Alalshikh) to announce when he is ready to announce it," he said.

“No (deadline). The fighters will just need to get into training some time in September so that is what will happen in early September.

“They will be ticking over at the moment, I’m sure. I can only speak for Tyson but he is with his family. And then as soon as the date’s announced, he will get down to the serious and bring in sparring partners and prepare for the fight. I believe the fight will go on in November.”
