BCB yet to decide on Rishad Hossain's NOC for SA20
Defending champions Eastern Cape pick Hossain for maiden SA20 stint on Wednesday
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has yet to make a decision regarding the issuance of the No Objection Certificate (NOC) to its all-rounder Rishad Hossain for the upcoming SA20, international media reported on Thursday.
Hossain, who has represented Bangladesh in 62 T20Is since making his shortest-format debut in 2023, was roped in by defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape on Wednesday for his maiden stint at SA20, the fifth edition of which is scheduled to run from January 17 to February 21.
The 24-year-old, who missed the previous edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) to represent Hobart Hurricanes at Australia's Big Bash League (BBL), has thus become uncertain for the upcoming season of his country's marquee league as it is expected to coincide with the SA20.
Meanwhile, a BCB source told the cricket website that if the two leagues do not overlap then there were "no problems" in issuing Hossain an NOC for the SA20; otherwise, they will have to deliberate and take a decision.
The source further emphasised that every NOC is treated on an individual basis, clarifying it was not essential that the all-rounder would miss the upcoming edition of the BPL after landing a deal at the SA20.
"If the BPL doesn't take place then, there are no problems. If it does (two competitions overlapping), board will have look into it and take a decision," a BCB official told the website.
"This is today's news (Rishad picked in SA20) and after the auction they will apply for the NOC and later the board will consider it. Previously, Hobart Hurricanes had applied for him beforehand, but recently no such thing had happened so now that he has got a team he will apply and the board will take a decision.
"Each and every single NOC is treated on an individual basis and just because it happened once (Rishad missing BPL for Big Bash) doesn't mean it will happen again. Now, when he applies for the NOC to take part in SA20, the board will decide whether to allow him or not at the expense of missing the BPL if it is scheduled during that point of time."
