Real Madrid agree deal to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig

Real Madrid on Thursday confirmed that they have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Yan Diomande, with media reports saying the transfer could become the most expensive in the club's history.

Financial details of the contract were not disclosed, but according to Spanish newspaper MARCA, the deal could be worth up to €125 million ($144.3 million), plus €10 to 15 million in add-ons.

This will be more than the fee Real paid for England midfielder Jude Bellingham in 2023, a reported €103 million plus add-ons.

"Real Madrid and RB Leipzig have reached an agreement for the transfer of Yan Diomande, who will be under contract with our club for the next seven seasons, through June 30, 2033," the LaLiga club said in a statement.

Diomande was announced as the Bundesliga's young player of the season for 2025-26, after scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists last term.

The player moved from his native land to an academy in the United States in 2025 before joining Spanish side Leganes.

Leipzig tried hard to keep Diomande in Germany but the player wanted a move to one of the biggest clubs in the world, and it was also difficult to reject the interest - and potential record sale price - from Europe's elite clubs, reports suggest.

Real Madrid appointed Jose Mourinho as their coach in June after a disappointing season for the record 15-times European champions in which they ended up runners-up to Barcelona in LaLiga and exited the Champions League at the quarter-final stage.

This will be Mourinho’s second spell with Real after he coached them from 2010 to 2013.

Real have also added left back Marc Cucurella, midfielder Bernardo Silva, centre back Ibrahima Konate and wing back Denzel Dumfries to their squad for the new campaign.
