DHAKA: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to move away from the format-centric captaincy for its men's team and is instead deliberating returning to separate white-ball and red-ball captains, international media reported on Monday.

According to a report by an international cricket news website, experienced wicketkeeper batter Litton Das, who is currently the T20I captain, is likely to be given the charge of the ODI side from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, while Nazmul Hossain will continue as Test captain.

The report further claimed that the proposal will be discussed on Wednesday during the BCB's board meeting here at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

For the unversed, the development followed the website's earlier report, which suggested that Miraz was running out of time as Bangladesh's ODI captain, despite the board extending his tenure until the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 earlier this year in April.

Notably, Miraz, who was appointed Bangladesh's ODI captain in June last year, failed to meet expectations as he could lead the Tigers to just two victories in 13 matches they played in away conditions since then.

Furthermore, the report claimed that Towhid Hridoy, who currently serves as Das's deputy in T20Is, is expected to perform the same role if the latter is handed the reins of the ODI side as well, since the BCB is considering the middle-order batter as a future leadership prospect.

The report, while citing BCB sources, also suggested that the body was initially considering offering the ODI captaincy to Shanto, which was taken away from him earlier, but backed out of the idea in a bid to ensure the top-order batter remains focused on leading the red-ball side.
