Lahore Qalandars announce Abdullah Shafique's replacement for GSL 2026
Shafique joins Pakistan's Test squad as injured Abdullah Fazal's replacement for West Indies series
GUYANA: Three-time Pakistan Super League (PSL) champions Lahore Qalandars have announced Bangladesh all-rounder Shamim Hossain as the replacement for Abdullah Shafique for the remainder of the ongoing Global Super League (GSL) 2026.
The franchise confirmed the development through its official social media channels after Shafique was called up to Pakistan's Test squad for the remainder of the two-match series against the West Indies and the subsequent three-match tour of England.
"Squad Update. Abdullah Shafique joins the Pakistan squad for national duty," the franchise wrote.
"We wish him the very best, while Bangladesh all-rounder Shamim Hossain joins the Qalandars family for the remainder of the Global Super League in Guyana," the post added.
Shamim brings considerable experience to the Qalandars, having represented Bangladesh in 52 T20 Internationals. The left-handed batter has scored 621 runs at a strike rate of 122.72, including one half-century.
He has also enjoyed a productive career in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), amassing 1,040 runs in 61 matches across five seasons at a strike rate of 141.68, with six fifties to his name.
The squad change follows the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) recent announcement of two additions to the national Test squad for the remainder of the West Indies series and the upcoming three-match Test tour of England.
Opening batter Abdullah Fazal was ruled out after being declared unfit, prompting the recall of Abdullah Shafique.
According to the PCB, Fazal underwent an MRI scan after sustaining an injury. Following medical assessment, the left-handed opener was advised to begin a rehabilitation programme and was subsequently ruled out of the remainder of the West Indies series and the England tour.
The board has also added Saud Shakeel to the squad as an additional batting option for the remainder of the Caribbean tour. However, his availability for the England series remains subject to his fitness.
