Pakistan receive commemorative plaque for inaugural Test at BLCA

TAROUBA: Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Saturday presented the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) with a commemorative plaque to celebrate the hosting of the first-ever Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy (BLCA) here.

The development was shared by the PCB through its official social media handles by posting a picture of the plaque, crafted in a scroll-shaped, polished wooden frame with a rich mahogany finish. At its centre is a black-and-gold engraved presentation plate bordered with gold trim.

The plaque also features a coloured photograph of West Indies captain Roston Chase and his Pakistan counterpart Babar Azam, on the outfield of the BLCA, holding the trophy for their ongoing two-match series, which forms part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27.

In the first-ever Test at the aforementioned venue, West Indies captain Chase won the toss and opted to bat first, but the disciplined performance by Pakistan's bowling attack made the home side struggle for runs in the rain-hit opening session of the first day.

Mohammad Abbas was eventually rewarded for his discipline on the second delivery of the ninth over when King chopped on a wide-length delivery and walked back after scoring a scratchy 12 off 29 deliveries, featuring just one four.

Following his dismissal, Kavem Hodge joined Chanderpaul in the middle, and they too struggled for runs, managing to put together just 10 runs for the second wicket off 35 deliveries until rain halted the action.

The rain interruption eventually forced an early lunch with West Indies reeling at 23/1. Chanderpaul and Hodge, both unbeaten on five, will resume their innings in the second session.
