Lahore Qalandars crush Desert Vipers to secure second consecutive win at GSL 2026

GEORGETOWN: Usama Mir's four-wicket haul after captain Michael Bracewell's blistering 46-run cameo led Lahore Qalandars to a comprehensive 38-run victory over Desert Vipers in the third match of the Global Super League (GSL) 2026 here at the Providence Stadium on Friday.

Opting to bat first, the three-time Pakistan Super League (PSL) champions registered a formidable total of 176/4 in their 20 overs, courtesy of a swashbuckling partnership between Parvez Hossain Emon and skipper Bracewell.

The duo took the reins of Qalandars' batting charge in the 14th over with the scoreboard reading 93/4 and turned the game on its head as they put together 83 runs for the remaining 35 deliveries.

Bracewell dominated the crucial stand as he contributed with an unbeaten 46 off just 23 deliveries, studded with four fours and three sixes, which eventually earned him the Player of the Match award.

Emon, on the other hand, returned after top-scoring with an unbeaten 47 off 33 deliveries with the help of three sixes and as many fours.

Besides them, right-handed opener Shayan Jahangir and young middle-order batter Farhan Yousaf made notable contributions to the Qalandars' total, scoring 28 and 22, respectively.

For the Vipers, Khary Pierre bagged two wickets for just 14 runs in his three overs, while Nathan Smith and Vitel Lawes bagged one apiece.

Set to chase a daunting 177-run target, the Vipers could manage 138/9 in the allotted overs despite Andries Gous's half-century and thus succumbed to a humbling defeat in their GSL 2026 campaign opener.

The Vipers got off to a flamboyant start to the pursuit as their opening pair of Gous and Kyle Mayers put together a 70-run partnership, which Mir eventually broke by dismissing the latter on the fourth delivery of the ninth over.

The left-handed opener remained a notable run-getter for the Vipers, scoring 30 off 28 deliveries with the help of three fours and a six.

Mir picked 13th over by dismissing Rilee Rossouw (nine) and Saiteja Mukkamalla (zero) and brought the total down to 96/3.

In the following over, Shahab Khan inflicted the decisive blow by sending back set-batter Gous, who remained their top-scorer with a valiant 56 off 38 deliveries, comprising seven fours and two sixes.

Gous's dismissal sparked a match-defining collapse, which saw the Vipers lose their remaining six wickets for just 34 runs, which ultimately resulted in them falling short of the target by 39 runs.

Usama Mir spearheaded Qalandars' bowling charge with four wickets for just 23 runs in his four overs, followed by Mehran Mumtaz and Shahab with two each, while Mohammad Imran chipped in with one.

The 38-run victory marked Qalandars' second in as many matches and consolidated their position at the summit of the GSL 2026 standings with four points, while Desert Vipers succumbed to the bottom.
