Tyson Fury drops retirement bombshell amid Anthony Joshua plans

Tyson Fury claimed that 2026 will be the last year of his boxing career. The Gypsy King will face Mariusz Wach in Thailand today.

The former world heavyweight champion will also fight Anthony Joshua later in 2026, a bout he has waited 10 years for.

Fury, 37, retired for the sixth time in January 2025, before reversing that decision after just one year.

Fury returned to the ring after 16 months away in April against Arslanbek Makhmudov, winning the contest with a unanimous decision at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

"This is my final year. That's why I want to be active. I don't want to go on until I'm 65 years old," Fury told The Sun, speaking before his second fight of 2026.

He then confirmed: "This is the last year, yeah. Final year, 26."

Tyson Fury hinted at a busy autumn and winter, saying: "I just want to keep busy, keep active. It's not about money, it's not about belts, it's about nothing now.

"It's about enjoying my life and enjoying my career and doing what I love to do. That's boxing training, so maybe I'll do quite a lot this year."

It will be a big weekend for the British boxing fans, as Fury and Joshua both compete in their warm-up fights before their highly anticipated showdown later in 2026.

Fury will take on Wach on Friday, before Joshua fights Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

It will be Joshua’s first fight since he was last involved in a fatal car crash in Nigeria in December 2025, which saw his two close friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, pass away.
