Mustafizur Rahman ruled out of The Hundred 2026 due to injury

KARACHI: Bangladesh's experienced left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman has been ruled out of The Hundred 2026 remainder due to a Grade 1 muscle tear in his right hamstring and meniscal degeneration in his right knee.

Rahman experienced discomfort while bowling during Bangladesh's ODI series opener against Zimbabwe in Harare on July 6 and underwent scans the subsequent day, which confirmed the extent of the injuries.

He was subsequently ruled out of Bangladesh's remaining five white-ball matches, two ODIs and three T20Is against Chevrons, concluded on Sunday, but was still due to link up with Birmingham Phoenix for the Hundred, having been signed for £100,000 in March's auction.

However, as per the latest development, the Phoenix, in a social media post, confirmed that the 30-year-old pacer, who could have become the first Bangladeshi to feature in The Hundred, has been ruled out of the eight-team tournament.

The franchise, who were earlier rocked by the unavailability of their captain Jacob Bethell due to a knee injury, shared that Rahman's replacement will be announced in due course, following the change in the left-arm pacer's availability status.

"The replacement will be made due to a change in Rahman's availability following a previous injury sustained on international duty during Bangladesh's recent one day international series against Zimbabwe," the Phoenix wrote on social media.

It is pertinent to mention that the Phoenix are yet to start their The Hundred 2026 campaign, with their opening fixture scheduled to be played on Friday at home against Trent Rockets.
