Saskatchewan Roughriders captain Jayden Dalke dies at 30 in car accident

Canadian Football League (CFL) side Saskatchewan Roughriders have announced the death of team captain and linebacker Jayden Dalke at the age of 30 following a car accident on Saturday.

The Roughriders confirmed the tragic news on Sunday, paying tribute to one of the club's most respected leaders both on and off the field.

Born in Leduc, Alberta, Dalke was selected by Saskatchewan in the sixth round of the 2022 CFL Draft.

He went on to establish himself as a key figure in the squad and played an important role in helping the Roughriders lift the 2025 Grey Cup.

In a statement, the club remembered Dalke for his commitment, leadership and unwavering spirit throughout his career.

"A relentless warrior on the field, Jayden's determination, toughness and work ethic inspired his teammates, who cared deeply for him and are heartbroken by his passing," the Roughriders said in a statement.

"Our hearts go out to the entire Dalke family, who traveled the country to watch Jayden live his dream."

Dalke enjoyed a solid CFL career, featuring in 68 regular-season games. During that time, he recorded 69 tackles, 31 special-teams tackles, three forced fumbles, one interception and one sack, earning a reputation as a dependable and hard-working defender.

Tributes also poured in from across the league, with CFL Commissioner Stewart Johnston expressing his condolences following the news of Dalke's death.

"The CFL has lost a teammate, a Canadian brother and a friend," Johnston said in a statement, describing the defensive back as a "passionate competitor who played with incredible heart."
