IShowSpeed stars in World Cup closing ceremony ahead of Spain-Argentina final

NEW YORK: American internet star IShowSpeed brought energy and excitement to the FIFA World Cup closing ceremony as he opened the pre-match concert before the final between Spain and Argentina here at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.

The ceremony featured a drumline, break dancers and a circular stage designed to look like a football from above.

Large models of New York landmarks, including the Washington Square Arch and the Vessel, surrounded the stage, while fireworks added colour to the spectacle.

IShowSpeed raced onto the stage to perform his song World Cup (Champions), entertaining fans as he dribbled and kicked a golden football while dancers performed around him.

The popular streamer appeared thrilled to be part of the occasion and brought the biggest spark to the short concert.

The 20-year-old has become one of the tournament's most recognisable personalities through his lively streams and interactions with supporters from around the world.

His efforts to speak different languages and connect with fans have earned widespread praise throughout the World Cup.

Post Malone followed with a performance of Chrome Heartbreaker before Swae Lee joined him for their hit song Sunflower.

Although the song received the warmest reaction of the set, many supporters were still making their way into the stadium ahead of kick-off.

All three performers also appeared to sing over pre-recorded vocals, a common feature at major stadium productions.

Robbie Williams, Laura Pausini and Nicole Scherzinger, who had been announced as part of the wider closing ceremony, did not appear during the pre-match show.

With FIFA saving its biggest entertainment for the World Cup's first-ever half-time show, featuring global stars including Madonna, Shakira, Justin Bieber, BTS, Burna Boy and Coldplay, the pre-match concert served as a colourful opening act before the tournament's showpiece final.
