Rana Irfan clinches inaugural Ali Asghar Valika All-Pakistan Snooker Championship

KARACHI: Punjab's Rana Irfan was crowned champion of the inaugural Ali Asghar Valika All-Pakistan Snooker Championship after edging Mubashir Raza 4-3 in a thrilling final organised by World Home Snooker.

Rana produced a superb display under pressure, compiling two century breaks to seal the title. He registered a break of 139 in the second frame before producing a match-winning break of 126 in the decisive seventh frame.

Mubashir fought back valiantly to force a close finish but was unable to overcome Rana, who claimed the championship after an entertaining contest.

Rana's break of 139 was the highest of the tournament, earning him additional cash rewards from several snooker enthusiasts in recognition of the achievement.

The closing ceremony was attended by PIA Chairman Arif Habib as the chief guest, who presented trophies and prizes to the winners. He also announced an additional cash prize of PKR300,000 for champion Rana Irfan.

Speaking to the media, Habib expressed his delight at the successful staging of the tournament at Naya Nazimabad and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the development of sports in Pakistan. 

He also paid tribute to Ali Asghar Valika, describing his contributions to the promotion of snooker as unforgettable.

Among those present at the ceremony were Ali Asghar Valika's younger brother Abbas Valika, former world champion Mohammad Yousuf, World Home Snooker founder Waqar Alam, tournament director Mohammad Waqas, Naveen Perwani, Naya Nazimabad Gymkhana President Syed Mohammad Talha, manager Mohammad Asif and a large number of spectators.
