Conor McGregor says his comeback UFC fight must be Max Holloway trilogy

Conor McGregor is targeting a trilogy fight with Max Holloway after suffering an injury TKO defeat at UFC 329.

McGregor (22-7) suffered an apparent knee injury seconds into the first round of a loss to Max in a comeback fight in Las Vegas.

Even with one fight remaining on his UFC contract, Conor’s future with the elite MMA promotion is unclear.

However, the Irishman, while responding to fans on social media, showed his interest in a trilogy with Holloway.

A fan asked if McGregor had interest in another fight with Dustin Poirier or a contest with Michael Chandler. “Mystic Mac” firmly has his sights set on “Blessed” again.

“It has to be Holloway,” McGregor replied.

Another fan joked that “The Notorious” should avoid a “Bruce Lee style” kick in his comeback bout. McGregor insisted that Holloway would not have found success in the fight if the injury had not occurred.

“I could have walked into the centre of that Octagon and taken a phone call,” McGregor responded. “There was zero forward attack coming at me nor was there going to be. Next time. I felt fully calm and relaxed. It was going to the shop for lunch. Lunch being the opponent.”

Max Holloway, after the fight, also called for a trilogy and said he is willing to wait until 2027 for the Conor McGregor rematch.

"I want to see what his injury is. I'm down to come back 2027. I know I came out unscathed but I owe my family some time,” Max said.

“You guys are gonna see Blessed return in 2027."
