The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has finalised the proposed selection criteria for the Pakistan senior men's national team's World Cup training camp, introducing a transparent and merit-based evaluation system ahead of the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup.

Under the proposed framework, every player will be assessed across five key areas: tactical understanding, technical ability, physical performance, mental strength and attitude. The federation said the standardised evaluation system has been designed to ensure a fair and objective selection process.

Players will be awarded a score ranging from one to five in each category by the coaching staff during trials and training sessions. To earn a place in the national team's World Cup camp, a player must secure a score of at least three in a minimum of three of the five assessment areas.

The PHF stated that the proposed selection criteria were developed by the federation's international coaching staff after extensive player monitoring and observation, while also incorporating global best practices in elite hockey.

To further strengthen transparency, the assessment process will be backed by digital evidence, including GPS tracking data and video analytics, allowing selectors to make informed decisions based on measurable performance indicators.

The proposed criteria and accompanying recommendations will now be presented to the PHF Selection Committee and the federation's president for final approval before being formally implemented.

The federation reaffirmed its commitment to selecting the country's best players through a fair, transparent and data-driven process as Pakistan continues its preparations for the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup.

The 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup will take place from 14 to 30 August 2026, with Belgium and the Netherlands jointly hosting both the men's and women's tournaments.

The event will mark the first time in the competition's history that the men's and women's World Cups will be held concurrently across two host nations.
