Sindh Sports Minister watches FIFA World Cup semi-final with football fans at Lyari Stadium

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mahar visited the Lyari International Football Stadium to watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final match between Argentina and England on a big screen.

Sindh government spokesperson Nadir Gabol and Sports Secretary Munawar Ali Mahesar accompanied the minister during the visit.

A large number of football fans gathered at the Football Stadium in Lyari to watch the highly anticipated semi-final, cheering on every moment and enjoying the match together.

Lionel Messi inspired Argentina's come-from-behind 2-1 win over England in Georgia on Wednesday, sending the reigning champions into the FIFA World Cup final for the second consecutive tournament.

Argentina will face Spain in the final on Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J., with a chance to claim a fourth title.

Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh said that the Lyari International Football Stadium was built for the young footballers of the area and described it as a gift for the people from Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

“The International Football Stadium, Lyari, has been constructed for the youth of this area. This ground is a gift for the people of Lyari from Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari,” Mahar said.

The provincial minister added that the Sindh government are taking practical steps to promote the football talent present in Lyari and provide young players with opportunities at national and international levels.

He emphasised that the government remains committed to supporting grassroots football and creating platforms where emerging players from Lyari can showcase their abilities.
