Athletics part ways with pitching coach Scott Emerson

WEST SACRAMENTO: The struggling Athletics have parted ways with pitching coach Scott Emerson on Monday as the club looks to address its ongoing pitching woes.

Emerson was a longtime staple of the A’s organization, joining as a Minor League pitching coach in 2002 and coaching at several of the club’s affiliates for over a decade.

Bullpen coach Dan Hubbs will take over as interim pitching coach for the remainder of the season.

The move comes as the Athletics enter the All-Star break on a nine-game losing streak. Their pitching staff has endured a difficult campaign, posting a 5.21 ERA, the second-worst mark in Major League Baseball, ahead of only the Colorado Rockies, who have a 5.44 ERA.

Emerson had been with the Athletics organisation since 2014, initially serving as bullpen coach before being promoted to pitching coach in 2017.

The Athletics head into the break with a 41-55 record, sitting fourth in the American League West and eight games behind the Texas Rangers in the division race.

It is pertinent to mention that Hubbs joined the A’s in 2023 as a Minor League pitching performance coach and previously spent two seasons as director of pitching development and strategies with the Tigers.

As a starting staff, the 5.30 ERA posted by the A’s rotation also ranks 29th in MLB.
