Manchester United complete signing of Brazil midfielder Santos from Chelsea

Manchester United have completed the signing of Brazil midfielder Andrey Santos from fellow Premier League club Chelsea, both clubs confirmed on Monday.

The Brazil international has penned a deal until June 2031, with the option to extend for a further year.

United have reportedly agreed to pay an initial fee of 48 million pounds ($64.30 million) for Santos, with a further two million pounds potentially payable in add-ons. Chelsea will also retain a 10 per cent sell-on clause.

Santos said that he is excited to join the club and learn from coach Michael Carrick, a midfielder himself.

“Everything about Manchester United is special; it is an incredible feeling to join a club that some of my biggest idols have represented,” Andrey Santos said.

“As a midfielder, I am really excited to have the opportunity to learn from Michael Carrick, he is the perfect coach to help me take the next step in my career and push to achieve my dreams.

“Everybody told me about how ambitious the club is and the amazing environment that has been created here. I know just how strong the squad is and I cannot wait to fight together to compete for the biggest trophies.”

Santos joined Chelsea from Brazilian Serie A side Vasco da Gama in 2023 and appeared 43 times for the Blues last season.

He had loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Strasbourg before returning to Stamford Bridge for the 2025-26 campaign.

"To be honest, since when I was young, I dreamed of this moment. The history, the responsibility that comes with this badge, that's why I'm here," Santos, 22, said in a video shared by United on social media.

Santos has represented Brazil in six international matches but was not included in Carlo Ancelotti's squad for the World Cup, where the five-time champions were eliminated in the Round of 16.
