Ian Wright fires back at Erling Haaland's father for comments after FIFA World Cup exit

England legend Ian Wright has criticised Erling Haaland's father after he claimed that Thomas Tuchel's side was favoured by the referee during their 2-1 win over Norway in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-finals on Saturday.

Andreas Schjelderup opened the scoring for Norway in the 36th minute of the match. However, Jude Bellingham scored an equaliser for England in the stoppage time of the first half.

The Real Madrid midfielder, Bellingham, then put England ahead following Orjan Nyland’s error in the third minute of extra time to ensure the Three Lions progressed to the World Cup semi-finals.

However, the match had its fair share of controversy. Norway claimed that the ball hit one of the Spidercam wires in the air, which led to Bellingham’s equaliser. In addition, Torbjorn Heggem’s goal was disallowed in the second half after Erling Haaland appeared to shove Elliot Anderson in the build-up.

After the match, Alf-Inge Haaland, who witnessed the match at the Miami Stadium, responded to Fabrizio Romano on X.

"Well done Bellingham and referee," he wrote.

He then responded to Henry Winter’s tweet praising Bellingham.

"Really? Saved by the referee. Hope you win the WC now. But feel we got robbed today," he stated.

During a recent episode of the Stick to Football podcast, Wright slammed Haaland.

"Is that sour grapes from Alf-Inge Haaland, saying well done to Bellingham and the referee? I think that was just a bit of a low blow from him," he said.

"He can’t surely be referring to that because that was just a ridiculous push [from Haaland]. In that particular moment, he’s like six or seven inches taller, why does he need to be that aggressive with him? It’s a massive foul. You can’t be talking that."
