Jude Bellingham hails England’s character after dramatic World Cup quarter-final win

MIAMI GARDENS: Jude Bellingham praised England’s resilience and determination after the Three Lions came from behind to defeat Norway 2-1 here at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday, securing place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-finals.

England looked to be heading for a difficult evening after Andreas Schjelderup fired Norway into the lead in the 36th minute.

However, Bellingham levelled the scores in first-half stoppage time before producing the decisive goal deep into extra time to complete another outstanding individual display and send England into the last four.

The Real Madrid midfielder, who also scored twice in England’s last-16 victory over Mexico, once again proved decisive on the biggest stage. 

His late winner capped a spirited comeback and underlined England’s determination to keep their World Cup dream alive.

Reflecting on the dramatic victory, Bellingham credited the collective effort of the squad rather than his own heroics.

"Character, perseverance [got us through]; even when things weren't working, we gave everything we got. I'm so proud of the team. It was a victory for everyone. The whole country wins – everyone behind us, the staff."

England’s comeback highlighted the squad’s fighting spirit as they refused to be discouraged after falling behind.

Despite Norway producing a disciplined performance and goalkeeper Orjan Nyland making several important saves, England continued to press until they found the breakthrough.

The victory sends England into their second World Cup semi-final in the past three tournaments, keeping alive hopes of lifting the trophy for the first time since 1966.
