Felix Auger-Aliassime ends decade-long partnership with coach Frederic Fontang

Canadian tennis star Felix Auger-Aliassime has announced the end of his long-standing coaching partnership with Frederic Fontang, bringing to a close a successful relationship that lasted almost 10 years.

The decision comes after Auger-Aliassime's five-set defeat to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon quarter-finals, with the 24-year-old confirming that the Grand Slam marked Fontang's final tournament in his coaching box.

Fontang began working with Auger-Aliassime when the Canadian was just 16 years old and played a key role in his rise on the ATP Tour.

During their partnership, Auger-Aliassime captured nine ATP singles titles and reached a career-high ranking of world number four, establishing himself among the game's leading players.

Announcing the news in a post on Instagram on Friday, Auger-Aliassime paid tribute to the French coach for his guidance both on and off the court.

"After nearly ten years of working together, it has recently been decided that Wimbledon would be my last tournament with Frederic by my side as my coach," Auger-Aliassime said.

"Since I was 16 years old, he has guided my development and helped me experience incredible moments through this sport. He has also been by my side during the toughest moments of my career.

"In those difficult times, I always found in him the calm, composure, and wisdom I needed to overcome those challenges. Looking back today, I can say that beyond being an outstanding coach, he has been a true mentor throughout my journey into adulthood."

The announcement marks the end of one of the ATP Tour's longest player-coach partnerships, with Auger-Aliassime now expected to begin the search for a new coach as he prepares for the remainder of the season.
