England captain dismisses Erling Haaland comparisons ahead of Norway quarter-final

MIAMI GARDENS: England captain Harry Kane has dismissed comparisons with Norway striker Erling Haaland ahead of Saturday's FIFA World Cup quarter-final, insisting the pair are "completely different players" despite being among the tournament's leading scorers.

England face Norway at Hard Rock Stadium with a place in the semi-finals at stake, while Kane and Haaland will also continue their pursuit of the Golden Boot.

France captain Kylian Mbappe and Argentina skipper Lionel Messi currently lead the standings with eight goals each, followed by Haaland on seven and Kane on six.

Kane rejected comparisons with Haaland, saying the two forwards have different playing styles despite both being prolific goalscorers.

"It is an impossible one for me to answer. First of all, I think we are completely different players almost. I know we are both seen as strikers, but it is almost two different positions, if I'm totally honest,” Kane said.

"Erling has been incredible, his goal-scoring record. Physically, he's a machine, he's a beast. His finishing is at the highest level, and obviously, his goal-scoring record speaks for itself."

Kane also underlined his own style of play, adding: "I see myself as a different player, although I score the same goals. I like to maybe touch the ball a little bit more, be involved in play a little bit more."

The Bayern Munich striker believes England are yet to produce their best football despite reaching the last eight after topping Group L and defeating Congo DR and Mexico in the knockout stage.

England trained at Inter Miami CF's facilities on Friday, where former England captain David Beckham greeted the squad before the session.
